The Next Quirk Classic

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. I find this to be an interesting, and curiosity-invoking direction for a Jane Austen alternative universe. After zombies and vampires I figured the next step was werewolves. But sea monsters? Now that's creative! I just wonder if author Ben H. Winters can accomplish the same monster/Austen artistry as Seth Grahme-Smith. I can say this though, once again Quirk Books have produced some amazing cover art!

  1. Shouldn't it be Persuasion and Sea Monsters? After all, Persuasion is the one focused on the Navy.

  2. Ooo good point. Here is the synopsis:

As our story opens, the Dashwood sisters are evicted from their childhood home and sent to live on a mysterious island full of savage creatures and dark secrets. While sensible Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars, her romantic sister Marianne is courted by both the handsome Willoughby and the hideous man-monster Colonel Brandon. Can the Dashwood sisters triumph over meddlesome matriarchs and unscrupulous rogues to find true love? Or will they fall prey to the tentacles that are forever snapping at their heels?

  4. The covers are great, I agree. I don't know if I care to read the series (as I am really easily creeped out) but I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Calling Col Brandon a hideous man-monster is taking a liberty, I must say. He's a fave of mine.

  5. Yes I would love to have all the original artwork. They should sell for a hefty sum!

Polonaise, P&P&Z was not scary, perhaps graphic at times. but nothing alarming. It was highly amusing. You should give it a try!

  7. Mwahahahaha! Oh, this is famous--it looks like something straight out of Lovecraft! I have to say though, poor Jane! "JANE AUSTEN is coauthor of the New York Times best seller Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which has been translated into 17 languages and optioned to become a major motion picture. She died in 1817." I do believe they are cutting her literary accomplishments a *bit* short there, no?

  8. Ouch is right, but sooo funny. Since it won't freak me out (Heather's word of honor), I'll give P&P&Z a try.
